We will be soon gathering in Abuja, Nigeria to attend the 33rd FIMA Council meeting and FIMA-IMAN scientific meeting from 18-23rd July 2016. The organizers are working tirelessly day and night with a great spirit of teamwork and dynamism to make this event a success. The local program will start on Friday 15th July when a Press Conference will be held to introduce the FIMA 2016 meeting and activities. Special Jumat service will be held at National Mosque Abuja. General medical outreach to rural areas around Abuja is also arranged on Friday. On Saturday July 16, 2016 VVF (vesico-vaginal fistula surgeries) and cataracts urgeries are planned. Visit to IDPs Abuja camp has been planned for Sunday July 17th.

 

FIMA council meeting program will start on Monday July 18th2016 with arrival of Council Members in Abuja and FIMA pre council ExCo meeting in the evening. The meeting will be formally inaugurated on Tuesday and will continue on Wednesday. A parallel Students Leadership training workshop will be conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday 19th 20th July 2016. IMAN/FIMAScientific Meeting will be held on 21-22ndJuly 21, 2016 at Nicon Luxury Hotel Main Hall.

 

The first plenary session with scientific papers presentation will be chaired by Professor Abdul Adogie. The second scientific Session shall be presided over by Professor Taufiq Ibrahim. Aparallel session of CIMCO presentations will also be held. After dinner and Isha prayers Gala Dinner will be held and FIMA lifetime achievement award will be given to Professor Jurnalisud Din from Indonesia. The third scientific session will be held on Friday with a parallel IHC session. Ameeting of addiction working group will be held as a separate session.

 

HIV/AIDS Seminar will be held in the evening. On Saturday July 23rd a guided tour around Abuja City/ Courtesy visit to some personalities shall be held.

 

All the IMAs, associates and affiliates are requested to make it convenient to attend the meetings. FIMA Council meeting is the most important landmark and well attended activity in the working of FIMA (Federation of Islamic Medical Associations), which is held annually and is a great source of reinforcing its working and activities, exchange of ideas and execution of plans of the organization. The delegates from IMA’s all around the world gather on an invitation from a local host and two days are allocated for the FIMA council meeting followed by a scientific session and later sightseeing.

 

The 33rd FIMA council meeting and 17th IMAN national scientific conference is being held in Abuja, Nigeria hosted by the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria. The idea to host FIMA meeting in Nigeria was put forth in Cape Town South Africa in 2013. The process of Sensitization and mobilization of members was started and it was finally approved in 32nd FIMA council meeting held in Makassar, Indonesia in 2015. The Theme of the scientific conference has been decided to be “Polio End game in Nigeria; Challenges and lessons to other vaccine preventable disease”.

 

Following Sub-themes were also selected to be presented and discussed in parallel sessions: Management of victims of armed conflicts, Provision of health care needs for refuges; Dilemma of 21st century, Prophetic medicine; the role of Muslim Health professionals. The conference work amounts to tremendous input by its members and organizers. The following subcommittees have been formed for arrangements in the areas of advocacy, publicity, fund raising, mobilization, accommodation, transport and logistics, welfare, venue and exhibition, security and sanitation, venue and accommodation. council meeting and the 17th IMAN & FIMA scientific conference will be at Nicon Luxury Hotel in the heart of Abuja. The programme shall be as follows. Pre council FIMA ExCo meeting 19th July.2016. FIMA council meeting 20-21st July 2016. 22-23rd July are allocated for FIMA-IMAN International scientific session. The scientific committee has invited the FIMA fraternity for abstracts. The deadline of submission is 15th June 2016.

 

In addition to the FIMA council meeting and scientific sessions there will be Students' activities and Sightseeing tour of the city. All the IMAs are requested to immediately start preparing for this mega event. Visa arrangements and boarding/lodging arrangements are being actively arranged by the local hosts. Shining stars was the name given to the 1st disability conference held under the auspices of Al-Amal Society for Development and Social Care (an associate member of FIMA) in collaboration with Turkish Ministry of the family and social affairs and municipality of Istanbul, in Istanbul, Turkey.

 

The conference was attended by more than 300 delegates from worldwide, prominent amongst them besides a galaxy of very renowned speakers were the Director General of the Ministry of Family and Turkish Affairs, Isaac Ahmet Çiftçi, the director general of the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs, Randa Bo Hamdan, the Lebanese MP Dr. Emad Al- Hoot, representative of the adviser of the prime minister of South Africa for disability affairs, FIMA treasurer Professor Ashraf Jedaar, representative of the First Lady of Turkey Amina Erdogan, Deputy Chairman of the IHH organization Fahmi Bulent Yildirim and a large number of dignitaries and disability associations.

 

In the words of Dr. Imad Al-Hout "It was a celebratory meeting to a far extent during which we celebrated with our sons and daughters, brothers and sisters with disabilities. We also gave a standing ovation and greeted our acclaimed donors from all Arab and European, African and Asian nations. as we exactly wanted it to be, the conference was as a cure for bleeding wounds, a Smile for anguished hearts, and what was most inspirational those children who competed to donate". "One child remarkably gave out her own gold necklace which was a gift from her mother" a guest speaker at the conference, Dr. Muhammad Al-Awadi commented... This truly shows how we are as a benevolent nation as our prophet Mohammad Dr. Tanveer H. Zubairi (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wanted President FIMA us to be. 33rd FIMA Council meeting will be held in Abuja, Nigeria from 18-24th July 2016 in conjunction with FIMA/IMAN scientific conference. The meeting will be hosted by Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria. FIMA ExCo and IMAN leadership has extended an invitation to all the member IMAs to make it convenient to attend this memorable meeting. The Council meeting is the most important organizational activity in the working of FIMA, where all the member IMAs and associates gather from all over the world and reports of FIMA, its projects and individual IMAs are presented. The future plans are discussed and exchange of ideas is made amongst the delegates.
