FIMA Umrah (Reported by Ubadah Zabidi Photography)

Assalamualaikum wrt wbt,

Alhamdulillah, from 16th – 22nd November 2018, 3 members of Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia (IMAM) Youth Chapter have participated in the 11th FIMA Umrah Leadership Programme which was conducted in Madinah & Makkah, Saudi Arabia and organized by IMAKSA-WAMY. This program also gathered students from health-related fields and graduates from 11 countries including Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Palestine, USA, UK, Uganda, Turkey, Kenya, Australia and Afghanistan in the aim of uniting future leaders from Islamic Medical Association (IMAs) from each countries to build connections and promote collaboration between different IMAs. The program also includes discussion among delegates on most important topics which empower medical students: research, volunteerism and leadership.

The main program was umrah/Makkah and Madinah ziarah, explore the holiest place of Islam and significant historical Islamic monuments.

First part of the program was conducted in Madinah which took place on 16th – 19th of November 2018. Delegates from IMAs were brought to prominent places in Madinah which tell historical event or sirah about Prophet Muhammad saw and the sahaba, including Nabawi Mosque, Jabal Uhud, Quba Mosque, Qiblatain Mosque, Dar Madinah Museum and King Fahad Quran Factory. On 18th of November, the delegates were having recreational activities such as soccer and swimming in a villa to promote bonding among them.

Throughout four-day event and program, the delegates were given seminars on leadership;
1. Training course “ A Leadership Journey – Discover Your True North “ by Mr Ahmad Hawsawi
2. Seminar “ Fundamentals in Life of Muslim Health Care Provider “ by Dr Ibrahim Alnaami
3. Seminar “ The Umrah Journey” by Dr Ghassan

Each time during the ziarah on prominent places, Dr Amer Alamer was telling the story or event that happened there and related it with leadership, for example, before going to Jabal Uhud, Dr Amer appointed a leader among the 31 delegates, to relate on the importance to obey the leader which was taught in the war of Uhud. In Khandaq trench digging spot, he told us how important for a leader to inspire his followers. Leader as a source of energy.

Second part of the program was the umrah journey to Makkah which took place on 20th – 22nd of November 2018. The delegates together with Dr Amer Alamer departed from Madinah to Makkah by bus, which took 8 hours to reach Al-Haram Makkah. Upon reaching Makkah, the delegates performed the umrah. Alhamdulillah. On 22nd of November, the delegates were brought to visit important places for Hajj, which include Jabal Rahmah & hiking to Hira’ cave.

The program ended with closing ceremony on the night of 22nd of November and was officiated by the vice president of IMAKSA-WAMY, Dr Mohammed Al-Zamzami. During the ceremony, the delegates were sharing their inputs and ideas they got from the program before the certificate giving.

Finally, we thank the host IMAKSA-WAMY & FIMA for organizing and offering the opportunity for 3 members of IMAM YOUTH to be equipped with the skill and knowledge of leadership via this program and building a connection between IMAs medical students.
