Pak Surgeons offer free eye treatment : Gulf Times today Qatar
Pak Surgeons Offer Free Eye Treatment
Prevention of Blindness (POB), a Pakistan-based trust with a mission to help restore eyesight and offer treatment for other critical eye diseases among the underprivileged, have offered free eye operations in Qatar.
This was announced by POB founder Dr Intzar Hussain while addressing Pakistani community members at the Pakistan embassy. A team of three members, including Professor Dr Imran Ikram Butt and media adviser Akhtar Abbas, is on transit from Gaza, Palestine to Pakistan.
They held a number of workshops with Palestinian ophthalmologists and signed a memorandum of understanding with the ministry of health of Palestine, said Dr Butt, a senior professor at the King Edward Medical College, Lahore.
Dr Hussain revealed that 250 eye surgeons from various parts of Pakistan are providing their services free.
Since its establishment in 2005, more than 90,000 operations have been performed under the POB umbrella, with around 1mn patients receiving treatment.
POB also provides volunteer services in 15 countries outside Pakistan, including Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Darfur in Sudan, Chad, Somalia, Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Niger, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, and Gambia.
Earlier, Pakistan Welfare Forum vice-president Ahmad Hassan welcomed the gathering.
Hafiz Mohamed Asif, a former president of Halqa-e-Ahbab, appealed to the audience to play their role in strengthening and carrying out the mission of the POB.
