Visit of SIMS Medical Students to POB Trust Free Eye Camp

By the grace of Allah on Sunday 29th April 2013 we left for the visit of an eye camp organized by Prevention of Blindness Trust at Tandlianwala in the vicinity of Tehsil Samundri, Faisalabad. We took the start of this memorable & fascinating journey with the Qirat of glorious Quran. Forty MBBS Students of Services Institute of Medical Sciences from first year to final year participated in this visit.

An orthodontist from Australia named Dr. Kamal (An Australian Dentist on charity mission for Myanmar & Pakistan) along with Dr Zubair Ahmed Khan(Dental surgeon) were also accompanying us.

On our way we stayed at a Rest house of irrigation department for the breakfast hosted by Najam us Sehar with his wife. We also visited the Balloki-headworks situated at the River Ravi. At the rest house we enjoyed the beauty of Canal. After visiting Balloki headworks we left for our final destination the Chanar Sugar Mills at the Tandlianwala. I gave the briefings regarding the purpose of eye camp to the medical students. Students were provided T-shirts & Caps of POB Trust & FIMA Save Vision.

Medical Students of SIMS counselled the post operative patients of cataract regarding the use of drugs (Medicines) & instruction regarding eye care. Students received lot of prayers by patients. Distribution of candies and biscuits were made to patients. We visited the whole setup of eye camp starting from the OPD. Then we moved to the Refraction room where the optometrist was busy in refracting the patients with Auto refractometer. From the OPD the referred patients were sent on the laboratory where the screening for Hepatitis B, C were carried out along with evaluation of Blood sugar & Blood pressure. Then we moved to biometry room where the calculation of Intra ocular Lens Power was carried out. Students visited the operation theatre where procedures of Phaco emulsification & extra-capsular cataract extraction were in process.

After having a through visit of eye camp there was a lunch break & Lunch was arranged by the management of Chanar Sugar Mills. Before the lunch a brief speech by Dr. Kamal (An Australian Dentists on charity mission for Myanmar & Pakistan) was delivered to the medical students of SIMS regarding his purpose of visit to the eye camp & a brief view of his charity work.After the lunch we visited the Chanar Sugar Mills & a beautiful pond on the vicinity of Sugar Mills where the Sunlight passing through the drops of fountains presenting a beautiful Rainbow by the total internal reflection. After our visit from Rana Resort the medical students of SIMS were provided by a gift of Mahi Sweet the famous sweet from Tandlianwala.

After visiting the Sugar Mills we went to the Rana Resorts near Balloki-headworks where Medical students enjoyed a lot, the whole atmosphere seems to be a forest. Students also enjoyed ice cream there. We reach Lahore at 9:00 pm that was a fascinating journey full of emotions & enthusiasm as expressed by the students
