POB (Prevention of Blindness) Trust is an important part of Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA). It is a registered organization rendering free eye care services to poor and deserving people in 35 districts of Pakistan and in 10 African countries. Thanks to the Free Eye Camp Program, we have, so far, examined 516,816 patients and 50,441 patients have successfully been operated for cataract and implanted intra ocular lenses (IOL). Free eye camps are also regularly organized for prisons’ inmates and children in schools.
Training workshops for medical and paramedic staff are also part of the POB Trust’s prevention of blindness program. Besides a good number of volunteers from all walks of life, The POB Trust is proud to have over 250 leading ophthalmologists offering free services throughout Pakistan and abroad.
Due to rapid increase in visual impairment globally and unavailability of eye care services, the Trust has decided to expand circle of free eye care services to the needy people nationally as well as internationally. The POB Trust has planned to examine 100,000 patients and operate 10,000 patients in the next year. It is also looking forward to establish a state of the art eye hospital in Lahore.
A considerable amount is required for cataract surgery and IOL lens implantation, but, because of volunteer doctors and efficient management, The Trust has succeeded in reducing the cost for cataract surgery to a minimum possible level of Rs. 3000 to Rs. 3,500.
