Dear Muslim Physicians and members of IMAs:

Peace and Blessing Be Upon All. May this message find all in the best state of health physically and spiritually.

I take this opportunity to invite all to Kuala Lumpur between the 13^th to 15^th September. The Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia (IMAM) is grateful to Almighty Allah for giving us the opportunity to host the 5^th Federation of Islamic Medical Associations (FIMA) Conference in conjunction with the 14^th IMAM Annual Scientific Meeting. This three days conference will be preceded by the 29^th Council meeting of FIMA Executive committee.

Currently the Muslim world makes up close to a fifth of the world population with Islam being the second largest religion. The Muslim population globally is expected to double in the next 20 years according to a study done in early 2011.

The increase in population brings with it socioeconomic challenges including health. Unfortunately, the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) Ten year Action Plan document of 2005 does not tackle health related issues specifically.

At the same time the United Nation Millennium Development Goals of 2000 has targeted basic minimal achievements for member countries to achieve by 2015, many impinging on health issues. For this reason, this years’ Conference has chosen the theme: Health and the Muslim World ; Meeting the Millennium Development Goals”.

Delegates will be able to hear first hand from scholars, practitioners, scientists and policy makers from the Muslim world deliberate on health issues which has been identified by the Millennium Development Goals. Researchers will also be able to present their findings as they actively try to contribute to tackle health related challenges facing the Muslim Ummah.

May Allah Bless all our efforts in making this Conference successful and by doing so contributing to the progress of the Muslim Ummah.
