West Sumatra Earthquake: Appeal for reconstruction of orphan’s school

Dear Brothers and Sisters

Assalamu Alaikum!

West Sumatra province of Indonesia was struck on 30 September 2009 by a devastating earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale killing at least 1117 people and injuring 1214 more with massive destruction of the infrastructure and other essential services.

The city of Padang and coastal town of Pariaman were worst affected with over 134 000 homes destroyed or severely damaged in the earthquake. The infrastructure was severely disrupted leaving IDP’s without adequate shelter, clean water, access to healthcare and other basic services. FIMA and its supporters rallied together and responded to the local needs of the affected population with humanitarian aid and medical services in collaboration with its local partners Indonesia IMA, MER-C, and YARSI.

FIMA has donated $26,000 to the reconstruction of an orphan’s school and associated services. The project is estimated to cost $100,000 with local funds of approximately $20,000 leaving a shortfall of $55,000. See attached photographs on the web gallery.

Dear Respected Brothers and Sisters, I urgently appeal to you, your families and friends, your partners and other associates, to respond to the critical need of the displaced population of West Sumatra. We appreciate your dedication to local activities and other disasters of equal or greater magnitude, but these orphans deserve our unequivocal support to afford them the best opportunities to improve their quality of life.

Could I suggest that each IMA pledge and donate $5000 towards this noble project?
