FIMA SAVE SMILE (FSS)

FSS is a FIMA project for repair of cleft lip and/or palate mooted in 2008 in Jeddah and officially adopted by FIMA in 2010 in Makkah.

It is the second project after FIMA Save Vision (FSV) which began in 2005 and till end 2012 has undertaken 1 million eye out-patient consults and 100,000 cataract operations in 17 different countries. FSV won the Rosenthal humanitarian award from American College of Physicians in 2009.

The first FSS camp was held in Khartoum in March 2010. Up to early 2013, 504 surgeries have been performed in Sudan, Palestine, Somalia, Yemen, Mauritania & Syria.

In March 2013, the FSS team of 35 surgeons, anesthesiologists & nurses from IMANA (Islamic Medical Association of North America) & DWW-Turkey (Doctors World Wide) plan to perform 300-500 cleft repairs in Khartoum.

Syria Relief III – News from IMA North America

Inshallah, IMA North America (IMANA) will fund this. I have put
forth the information for final approval from the relief committee.
We will forward USD 50,000.00 immediately for the purchase of
emergency medicines.

Please also forward us the proposal for a field/triage hospital. We
will support financially as well as with volunteers.

I am returning from Sudan on 9 March, and will be flying via Beirut.
Is it possible for me to visit the site on 9 March?

Dr. Ismail A. Mehr
IMANA Relief Committee Chair
